AiHud Notation Copilot: frequently asked questions
AiHud Notation Copilot is a MuseScore Studio 4 plugin that edits your open score from plain-English requests. It is free for 100 applied edits a month, and one Ctrl+Z undoes any request.
- What is AiHud Notation Copilot?
- AiHud Notation Copilot is a plugin for MuseScore Studio 4 that edits the open score from plain-English requests. It writes section voicings, string pads and brass hits, bass lines, easier parts, melodies and exercises, and handles doubling, transposing, slurs, articulations, dynamics and hairpins.
- Is there an AI plugin for MuseScore 4?
- Yes. AiHud Notation Copilot runs inside MuseScore Studio 4 on Windows, macOS and Linux. You type the request in its chat window and the notes are written into the open score as one undo step.
- How much does it cost?
- Free for 100 applied edits a month, no card needed. After that you can pay as you go with AiHud credits: A request typically uses 10 to 25 credits (1 credit = $0.001); a request that needs a clarifying question costs two rounds. $10 is roughly 400 to 1,000 requests. Credits never expire.
- How do I install it?
- Get a free key at copilot.aihud.net and download the plugin zip (your key is built in). Unzip it into Documents/MuseScore4/Plugins, restart MuseScore 4, enable Notation Copilot under Home > Plugins, then open a score and choose Plugins > Composing/arranging tools > Notation Copilot.
- Can it add new instruments to my score?
- No. It edits the staves that are already in the score. Add the instrument in MuseScore first (press I), then ask Copilot to write for it.
- Can I undo what it did?
- Yes. Each request is a single undo step, so one Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on Mac) restores the score exactly.
- Does it need chord symbols?
- No. It uses chord symbols when they are there; otherwise it reads the harmony from the other parts, half a bar at a time.
- Does it work with MuseScore 3 or other notation programs?
- No, only MuseScore Studio 4.x. It does not work in MuseScore 3, Sibelius, Finale or Dorico.
- Is my score stored?
- No. Your score is sent to AiHud only to make the edit and is not stored. The text of requests and replies is kept to improve the service.
- What happens if my request is vague?
- Copilot asks a short question with one-click options (which bars, which part, replace or add as a second voice) instead of guessing.
- Who makes it?
- AiHud (aihud.net). The plugin is free software under the GPL-3.0; the AI editing runs on AiHud's server.
How it works: install in 4 steps
- Get a free key on copilot.aihud.net and click “Download the plugin”. The zip has your key built in, so there is nothing to paste.
- Unzip it into your MuseScore plugins folder, so you end up with a
NotationCopilotfolder there:
Windows:Documents\MuseScore4\Plugins\
Mac:Documents/MuseScore4/Plugins/(in Finder: Go → Home → Documents)
Linux:~/Documents/MuseScore4/Plugins/ - Restart MuseScore 4, open Home → Plugins and click Notation Copilot → Enable.
- Open a score and choose Plugins → Composing/arranging tools → Notation Copilot. Type what you want in the chat.
Honest limits
- It edits the score you have open; it can't add new instruments or staves. Add the staff in MuseScore first (press I), then ask Copilot to write for it.
- Each request is one undo step: one Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on Mac) puts the score back exactly as it was.
- It works in MuseScore Studio 4.x (Windows, macOS, Linux) and needs an internet connection; your score is sent to AiHud only to make the edit and is not stored.
- Big jobs (more than about 128 part-bars at once) ask you to confirm first. Vague requests get a short question with one-click options instead of a guess.
- It writes from your chord symbols, or from the harmony it reads in the score when there are none. It is a fast first draft: check it by ear like you would a student's or a colleague's part.
